     Estas imágenes son copiadas del artículo principal de la revista National Geographic Magazine de Agosto de 1964, sobre la expedición liderada por G. Brooks Baekeland y Peter Gimbel a la vertiente oriental de la cordillera de Vilcabamba, una de cuyas principales quebradas es la del río Picha, afluente del río Urubamba. El río Cutivireni con sus cataratas y puente natural está en la vertiente occidental de la cordillera de Vilcabamba. Si bien esta expedición no llegó a la interesante cuenca del Cutivireni, se lograron imágenes excelentes y constituyó un paso trascendente en la exploración de la aún poco conocida cordillera de Vilcabamba. Uno de sus principales hallazgos fue el de los lagos en la zona alta, en especial el que ellos bautizaron como Lago Parodi.
     Los derechos de autor pertenecen a Peter Gimbel, según nos han informado en la National Geographic Society.  No hemos podido ubicar a Peter Gimbel para pedirle autorización de publicar estas imágenes por el Internet, por lo que si alguien lo puede ubicar le rogamos nos proporcione su dirección o teléfono.

     These images are copied from the feature article of the August 1964 edition of the National Geographic Magazine, on the expedition led by G. Brooks Baekeland and Peter Gimbel to the eastern flank of the Vilcabamba range of mountains, one of whose main canyons is that of the Picha river, tributary of the Urubamba river. The Cutivireni river with its waterfalls and natural bridge lies on the western flank of the Vilcabamba range. Although this expedition did not reach the interesting Cutivireni basin, many beautiful images were obtained and it constituted an important step in the exploration of the until now little known Vilcabamba range of mountains. One of the main findings was that of the lakes in the higher zones, in particular the one they named Lake Parodi.
     The copyrights of these images belong to Peter Gimbel, according to information given us by the National Geographic Society. We have tried without success to contact Peter Gimbel for requesting his permission to post these images on the Internet. If someone can contact him, please let us know.
