La Provincia de Yauyos (Departamento de Lima), especialmente en las
regiones altas del rio Cañete, tiene algunos de los mejores atractivos
naturales y arqueológicos que aún no han sido desarrollados
adecuadamente para el Turismo. Notables en este sentido son los pueblos
de Carania, Laraos y Huancaya. En
las vecindades del pueblo agrícola de Carania se encuentran las ruinas
preincaicas de Huamanmarca, a unos 4000 metros sobre el nivel del mar.
Huamanmarca es una de las ciudadelas preincaicas más importantes del
Perú, que se destaca por sus numerosas andenerías, hoy mayormente
abandonadas. Para llegar a las ruinas es necesario realizar una caminata desde Carania por un camino inca de
pendientes variadas
(toma unas 6 a
8 horas ida y vuelta).

The Province of Yauyos, in the Department of Lima, contains some of the
most attractive natural and archaeological sites that have not been
adequately developed for Tourism. Some of the best places are the towns
of Carania, Laraos and Huancaya. The pre-inca ruins of Huamanmarca are located near the agricultural town
of Carania, at around 13,000 feet above sea level. These ruins are
considered one of the most important in Perú, but due to the difficulty
in reaching them they are in bad state of conservation. To reach
the ruins it is necessary to make a long walk from Carania by an inca
trail with varying gradients (between 6 and 8 hours back and forth).
Huamanmarca has impressive agricultural
terraces most of which are abandoned today due to lack of irrigation.
